Ginnifer Goodwin: Fashion Winner at MET Costume Institute Gala 2011

May 4, 2011

When it comes to galas, there is no question that the MET Costume Institute Gala is the best event for catching top fashions–bar none. This years Alexander McQueen’s Savage Beauty Gala at the MET did justice for fashion. Of course most stars paying homage to the late great Alexander McQueen did go all out in some risk-taking designs.  There were many more winners I would say than losers (though there were several unfortunate cases): celebs, socialites, and fashion industry VIPs stepped it up a notch with couture fashions. The trend for the evening seemed to be head to toe lace in soft nudes in the style of Princess Kate Middleton’s elegant wedding dress (great choice for her big day). But my favorite pieces were jewel toned and simple. Presenting the winners and losers from Monday night.

Best Dressed

First Place: Ginnifer Goodwin takes first place in her gorgeous emerald hued long sleeved, deep plunging, creation. She is showing just the right amount of skin looking chic and provocative without going overboard sexy. Her pixy haircut gives her a twiggy like look, which compliments her face. Oh and that emerald and diamond necklace? Breathtaking.

Runner Up: Lele Sobieski— I haven’t seen too much of this actress lately but she made a bangin’ appearance at the Gala. Love the cream colored dress, love the belt, love the makeup, love the hair. A+ girl!

Grecian Goddess

Honorable Mentions: Giselle Bundchen looked stunning in a red strapless gown. This model has it going on in this glamorous red creation. Everything from the wavy locks to those diamond earrings scream sexy elegance. Meanwhile Sara Jessica Parker looked like a sexy 60’s vixen in a long sleeved gold bejeweled gown. Eva Mendez’s skin looks amazing with her deep violet one sleeved dress. The gold belt adds an appropriate touch of metallic and cinches her small waist. For Renee Zellweger this nude body hugging dress was a great fit for her lean body. I always find that there is something so elegant about her and the dress definitely confirms this.

Rihanna as flaming red Lara Croft in Lace? Please Rihanna, fix yourself up. You have a lovely doll-like face so why ruin your natural beauty with a horrific red wig? I really wished she had opted for a soft updo to go with her black lace, which could have worked, but with that braid I am too distracted to take note of anything else. Then there’s Naomi Campbell looking like she tore up a couch..and what’s with that hairdo? mm Christina Ricci my dear, what is that costume you’re wearing? Sure, you’re at a costume gala but that doesn’t literally mean show up like you’re going to a Halloween party_ it’s not that kind of costume party! As for Liv Tyler, I normally am a fan of her subdued style, but not this time! I can’t even explain this choice: sort of like a torn up Big Bird. Nothing really makes sense here. And I’m not feeling her hairstyle either–she’d look much better with a chignon or big waves.
